Sirmons Leaving; State Looking For New Commish

State film commissioner Paul Sirmons has been extending his own timeline in office. He first said that he would be stepping down at the end of Jeb Bush's term, but he stayed in office to help out newly elected Charlie Crist. Then, Sirmons said he would leave the position and go back to filmmaking this summer as soon as he got through the legislative session. Finally, it appears that he is moving on and will get back to making films. The following is an email that has been sent out from his office on Monday, October 1st.
We are seeking a new film commissioner to continue the leadership, support and growth of Florida’s film, television and digital media industries, serving Governor Charlie Crist and the people of Florida.
The position of state film commissioner will be opening up in mid-October, so apply as soon as possible if you are interested. To do so, please send a resume and letter of interest to:

The following are guidelines (not requirements) for selecting a film commissioner, as provided by Florida’s statutes, to give you an idea of what in an applicant’s background might be considered valuable:
1. A working knowledge of the equipment, personnel, financial, and day-to-day production operations of the industries to be served by the office;
2. Marketing and promotion experience related to the industries to be served by the office;
3. Experience working with a variety of individuals representing large and small entertainment-related businesses, industry associations, local community entertainment industry liaisons, and labor organizations; and
4. Experience working with a variety of state and local governmental agencies.
The position is fulltime with benefits and requires relocation to Tallahassee, Florida.
The applicant does not have be a Florida resident to apply.
