Independents Film Festival - 16 & 17 - Tampa

The Independents' Film Festival (IFF) will commence at 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 16th at the historic, Tampa Theatre with the welcoming remarks of Paul Wilborn, Tampa's Manager of Creative Services, followed by a presentation of awards to the winners of the "Best of the Fest." A dozen or so films will be screened as part of this festival extravaganza. Everything from animations to features and the gamut in-between will sate the appetites of voracious indie film lovers. This unique screening exhibits the best films selected from the field of 156 submissions entered into the IFF from around the world including: South Africa, France, England, Ireland, Spain, Japan, Croatia and India. 70 plus films were submitted from Florida alone. The winning entries will be presented with an award and shown at the Tampa Theatre. Tickets to this event are $6 and available at the Tampa Theatre box office or at TicketMaster.

Saturday, Sept. 17th at 12 p.m. the Junior Independents' Film Festival will begin at Sunrise Cinema, Hyde Park. Award-winning films made by student filmmakers K-12th grade will be shown, awards presented and several of the filmmakers will be on-hand to answer audience questions. This event is free and open to the public. At 2 p.m. Sept. 17th, the festival will continue at The Education Channel with a workshop: "Sound for Filmmakers," presented by sound recordist, Mike Barnitt. Barnitt has worked as sound recordist on films and documentaries for the past 30 years including Edward Scissorhands, Cop and a Half, Gibtown and The Language of Music among others. This event is free and open to the public.

At 4 p.m. Sept. 17th, the festival draws to a close with "Meet the Makers," a panel discussion lead by film curator, Margaret Murray taking place at The Education Channel. Several award-winning IFF filmmakers will be in attendance to discuss filmmaking in general and the making of their movies, specifically. If you'd like to talk with these filmmakers first-hand, this is your opportunity to do so. This event is free and open to the public.
