Still Time to Enter Academy's
20th Annual Nicholl Screenwriting Program

The 20th annual Don and Gee Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting program of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will be accepting entries through May 2, Academy President Frank Pierson reminded writers today.

Pierson said the program is open to screenwriters who have not earned more than $5,000 writing for film or television. Entry scripts must be the original work of a sole author or of exactly two collaborative authors. Entries must have been written originally in English. Adaptations and translated scripts are not eligible. Up to five $30,000 fellowships are awarded each year.

"We're consistently receiving over 6,000 entries a year," said Pierson. "We're extremely pleased to see such a large number of entries each year, and always hope we'll find Hollywood's next successful writers among them."

Several past Nicholl Fellows have gone on to successful film writing careers, including Mike Rich, "Radio," "The Rookie," "Finding Forrester;" Ehren Kruger, "Arlington Road," "The Ring;" Susannah Grant, "Erin Brockovich," "Ever After" and Andrew Marlow, "Air Force One," "Hollow Man," "End of Days."

Application information is available now on the Academy's website at www.oscars.org/nicholl; entries must be postmarked no later than May 2.
