Sunscreen FF hosts Rooker, Cobbs This Weekend
(released 4/30/2009)
By Douglas Lorah

The Sunscreen Film Festival, which started on Wednesday, April 29th, has a few faces that you may recognize from the short film This Man's Life, which was shot in Mt. Dora and Orlando in December 2007.  Stars North co-founder Todd Thompson is bringing in Michael Rooker (Days of Thunder, JFK) and Bill Cobbs (Night at the Museum, That Thing You Do!) for screenings on Friday and Saturday.

Produced and directed by Thompson, This Man's Life tells the tale of a man traveling home to claim his estranged father's inheritance. On the journey home, he encounters a peculiar stranger that seems to know everything about his life.

This Man's Life, co-written by Thompson and Stars North story man Pete Raymundo, features a who's who cast of respectable Central Florida artists like little tyke Sammy Fender who plays actor Zach Braff's son on the ABC series Scrubbs and Orlando Channel 6 News Associate Producer Forrest Frosty Respess who, at the young age of 81, moonlights as a commercial, movie and theatre actor. The film also features actor, Randy Molnar, whose resume boasts over 41 film credits including Larry the Cable Guy Health Inspector, Delivery, Second Coming and most recently, a leading role in The Tenant which was filmed this past summer at Orlando's new Studio 500 at the University of Central Florida. Fender, Respess and Molnar all play pivotal roles in the film.

The company will soon be in development on A Little Taste of Heaven, the fourth and final chapter in their four-part short film series. They are also working on their first feature-length film called My Friend Joe, written by local screenwriter, Jeffrey Malphurs of New Smyrna Beach. The filmmakers are planning to produce the feature here in Central Florida and are currently looking for final investors to come on board to fund the ultra low-budget project.

This Man's Life will screen at the Muvico Baywalk 20 & IMAX (151 2nd Avenue North St.) in St. Petersburg on Friday, May 1 (5:30pm) and Saturday, May 2 (2:30pm). More information is available at www.sunscreenfilmfestival.com or by calling (727) 258-8417.
